0:00–0:40Opening
Good morning, Board Members and District Leadership. Today I want to give you a clear update on several Technology Department projects that directly support student safety, campus communication, transportation visibility, food safety, and instructional events.
The important message is that these are not isolated technology purchases. Together, they are becoming an operational system for the district: better communication, better documentation, faster response, and stronger visibility for staff and administrators.
0:40–2:10Gym Audio/Video Systems — SLMS, ADS, and RCS
First, I want to highlight the gym audio and video systems. At San Luis Middle School, the gym A/V system is completed and is already improving assemblies, athletics, trainings, staff presentations, student presentations, and community events. This type of system helps the campus run more professional events with better sound, better visuals, and less setup pressure on staff.
Arizona Desert School is moving forward in phases. The screen and projector are installed, which gives the school improved visual presentation capability. The remaining phase is the sound system, so we are keeping ADS listed as in progress until that audio portion is completed.
Rio Colorado School is also in progress. The audio system is installed, including speakers, A/V rack equipment, and stage-side devices. The remaining phase is the stage screen and projector. So the Board should see this as progress with clear remaining work, not as a project we are overstating as fully complete.
2:10–3:55Transportation and Dismissal Visibility — Crosswalk, SafeWalkTracker, and InformaCast
The next group of projects focuses on student movement and dismissal visibility. Crosswalk K‑12 is already helping administrators and schools with transportation visibility. The next major value is parent confidence: giving families better access to transportation information as we continue expanding carefully and responsibly.
SafeWalkTracker is an internally developed system that will help with walker dismissal accountability. Authorized staff will scan student ID barcodes, check walker status using Synergy export data, and create a timestamped history of scans. It is not live yet, but it is expected to support the 2026–2027 school year after testing and final improvements.
The InformaCast bus arrival and speaker display workflow is another important part of dismissal communication. The goal is for bus drivers to notify schools when a route has arrived, and for schools to receive a voice or visual announcement through compatible speaker/display systems. This can reduce repeated manual checking and improve coordination between transportation and campuses.
3:55–5:05CrisisGo Emergency Management System
CrisisGo is one of the strongest examples of technology supporting safety operations. The district uses CrisisGo as a completed emergency management platform across schools. It supports fire drills, lockdown drills, soft-lock drills, and reunification drills, while keeping teachers and staff connected during drills through the app.
One important point for the Board is that GESD32 has complied with reunification drill requirements, and based on our district operational knowledge, we are among the few districts in Arizona with this level of reunification drill compliance and documentation readiness.
CrisisGo also gives the district audit logs and fast report access. If we are audited or asked to provide documentation, we can produce reports quickly instead of manually rebuilding evidence after the fact. That is a major operational benefit: it gives the district preparedness, accountability, documentation, and visibility.
5:05–6:00Sonicu Freezer and Refrigeration Monitoring
Sonicu is focused on proactive monitoring for food service. Instead of discovering a freezer or refrigerator problem after inventory is already at risk, Sonicu can monitor temperatures, door-open conditions, and power-related issues, then send alerts to the Food Department, Maintenance, and designated administrators.
The Board value is simple: food safety, inventory protection, faster response, and better documentation. It moves us from reacting after a problem to being alerted while we still have time to respond.
6:00–7:20Safety Sensors — Vape Detection, Air Quality, and Door Contact Sensors
The next safety priorities are planned and funding-dependent. Vape detection and air quality sensors are being considered as part of student safety and wellness. These sensors can help identify vaping-related incidents and environmental concerns in areas where cameras are not appropriate, such as restrooms or nearby areas. The goal is faster administrator awareness, better trend visibility, and a response process that respects student privacy.
Door contact sensors are another important next step. We already have access control foundations in place, but there are still visibility gaps, especially when a physical key is used or when a door does not yet have full electronic access-control hardware. Door contact sensors would help the district know when doors are opened and support after-hours intrusion awareness.
For both of these areas, the wording is important: these are future or planned items, and where they are tied to COPS grant funding, approval is competitive and not guaranteed.
7:20–8:45Closing
When you look at these projects together, the theme is operational maturity. Gym audio/video systems support instruction, athletics, trainings, and community events. Crosswalk, SafeWalkTracker, and InformaCast improve transportation and dismissal visibility. CrisisGo strengthens emergency communication, reunification readiness, audit logs, and fast reporting. Sonicu protects food inventory and improves response. Vape detection, air quality sensors, and door contact sensors represent the next phase of safety visibility.
Our goal as a Technology Department is to continue building systems that protect instructional time, support safer campuses, improve accountability, and give district leadership better information before small issues become major problems.
